HAN 2.0 (Hidden Automatic Navigator) is a unique solution for managing access to internet resources, typically e.g. for paid internet servers (access to e-journals and other online services etc.), administration pages etc.
The connection (login) process is invisible to the user, whether it is implemented based on username and password (which therefore does not need to be published) or based on IP address control. The advantages of HAN include:
- simple operation with minimal demands on the administrator
- no additional problems with password distribution and security
- centralized user authorization
- access to protected resources from anywhere (working from home etc.)
- integrated www interface for the user
- integrated alphabetical list of resources ("AtoZ List") with search capability
- support for online services using SSL security (https)
- "expert mode" for easier support of online services using Java
- comprehensive recording of user activity
- statistical evaluation of logs (data volumes, time per user etc.) including pre-definable types of tracked files (e.g. PDF, txt etc.)
- aggregates data about usage and access management considering both users and service providers
- authentication based on existing user accounts (active directory, NT domains, LDAP)
- independence from access restrictions given by local subnets
- HAN does not act as a proxy server, but as a gateway
- possibility of integration with e-portal EZB Regensburg
The HAN system is based on the Apache www server and runs under Windows. HAN 2.0 offers - just like version 1.x - the possibility of integration with the NetMan server software, which enables the construction of a universal portal for access to all kinds of applications (Windows, CD/DVD-ROM, online) utilizing the advantages of so-called terminal services.
